Genius Plaza Internship
creating visuals to benefit a multilingual educational experience
Illustration, Animation, and Graphic Design Intern
Summer 2017 - 8 weeks
Genius Plaza uses technology to provide quality education around the globe.
Their mission is to create a platform that helps provide students, parents, and teachers with the tools to create the best possible learning experience, especially for those in underserved communities.
I served as part of their visual design team in order to help advertise the company's mission and create visuals for learning materials.
Visual Design Work
The majority of my time at Genius Plaza was spent doing visual design work. This included illustrations and graphic design products to appeal to teachers, parents, and students from grades K-12.
Social Media Illustrations
Visuals to accompany posts on Facebook, Instagram, etc. to celebrate holidays, seasons, and other events.
Visuals that went inside e-books about the first day of school. Created illustrations to appeal to users of kindergarten, 4th grade, and highschool reading levels.
Covers for e-books discussing different careers by telling the stories of succesful professionals around the world. Each series was created with both English and Spanish subtitles.
Printable coloring pages featuring letters and animals whose names begin with that letter.
E-book Co-creation Assets
One of Genius Plaza's goals is to help children learn through creating experiences themself. On the website, students have the opportunity to create e-books with visuals from a bank of pre-made illustrations.
Created a mixture of different graphic design products including Snapchat filters, posters, etc.
Motion Graphics & Character Animation
The last week and a half of my time at Genius Plaza was spent with the Animation team learning how to create simple character animations. I was taught how to use the puppet tool, speed graph, and other helpful motion graphics tools in Adobe After Effects.
